Mad Science Launches Summer Internship Program

Jul 10, 2014 12:00 AM

The Mad Science Group has added two new faces to the team!

Kayla Pirollo and Rosie Behar are the first to participate in our new internship program. We are very excited to be able to offer these talented young women an opportunity to participate in a real-world STEM work experience at Mad Science!

Kayla is a Building Engineering student currently attending Concordia University in Montreal, Qc. She is about to enter her final year of studies, and has big plans for the future. She aims to run her own residential engineering firm, but in the mean time she is gaining business experience in the Mad Science Marketing department to compliment her technical background. Kayla will be helping the marketing department find interesting science content for our social media communities.

Rosie, who is also from Montreal, Qc, is a recent graduate of McGill University’s Microbiology and Immunology undergraduate program. Mad Science was first introduced to Rosie at an event that she organized for the Microbiology and Immunology Student Association, which helped students connect with Alumni and learn about potential career paths. She will be spending the summer helping the Mad Science R&D department develop and test new experiments.

Congratulations, Kayla and Rosie. We look forward to our time with you this summer!

Fun and Easy Science Experiments for Mother’s Day
Receiving a present for Mother’s Day is always the best. You feel loved and know that your child appreciates you and thought to do something special for you. Sometimes that something special is just a scribble on a card, a macaroni necklace, or a delicious breakfast in bed of cold cereal. Sometimes figuring out what to give your mother is a challenge though. We are always looking for ways to incorporate science into everything that we do – even Mother’s Day. Here are two fun science projects that are fun presents for mom too! Your child can create one of these fun presents while exploring science with their favorite adult helper (Other than mom of course – so the gift can be a surprise!).

Mad Science STEM Night
As a Mad Scientist, I am always up for an adventure. So you can imagine my excitement when I had the opportunity to go on a Mad Science road trip with five of my Mad Scientist friends to Victoria, Texas. The Bilingual/ESL department of the Victoria ISD invited us to bring our Science Night to Stroman Middle School. Our goal for the evening was to share our love for science while reinforcing STEM objectives.

How to Pick the Perfect Summer Camp
This time of year I spend time every day helping parents pick summer camps for their children. I thought that it was only fair for me to share this information with everyone. I know that I am the kind of parent that is more likely to register online rather than call and visit, but sometimes the extra information that you can find out by visiting with someone can be invaluable nuggets of knowledge. So here are my little nuggets for choosing camps.
